Mages need to ear carrots to be able to cast skills. That "carrot thing" means he has eaten enough carrots.

Well you can either eat the carrot...or errrr you can...um...not saying it on forums.... ;-;

It means that the rabbit is well-fed. You can see Unreal's rabbit behind the character.
