They probably have tons of applicant to sieve through, as community said in a couple of week be watching you mailbox.

What factors, other than the ones you mentioned, will be taken into account when choosing the guides? Also how many of us will be chosen?

Id assume maybe 1 at least per world

Well, the good news is that since there isn't much horizontal end-game content, most of the really committed (commitable?) high levels I know have an endless parade of alts and can therefore give feedback on low/mid-game content as well.
